Buying an Air Conditioner
1. How to choose an air conditioning system for the house?
To choose an air conditioning system for your house, you will need to:
  1. Decide on the areas that require air conditioning.
  2. Determine thse cooling capacity required.
  3. Determine the types of air con that you want.
  4. Must understand the advantage and application of each type before make decisions
  5. Consider your budget.
2. How do I determine the air conditioner capacity required for my room?
For a quick estimation, we can use the rule of thumb:

Area (Length x Width) X F = BTU/hr : F = Heat Load Factor
E.g. Room size 10ft X 10ft = 100ft2 X 70 = 7,000BTU/hr.

NOTE : Heat Load Factor For

  1. House = 70
  2. Office = 85
3. Which brand of to choose?
Basically you have to choose the brand of air conditioner that can provide you good support on after sales service. Preferably with their own teams or authorized by the respective brands.
4. What is an inverter air conditioner?
An inverter air conditioner uses an inverter circuit to regulate the rotational speed of the compressor to match the output of the compressor to the cooling pump load. This reduces the number of times the compressor stops and starts as the load varies, so saving on electricity bills and reducing noise levels compared to non-inverter models.
5. What is the difference between a window unit and a split system?
A window unit is a self-contained packaged air conditioner. All components are housed within the unit. It is installed through an opening in the wall and no inter-piping connection is required.

A single split, as it is called, comprises 2 parts that make up a system air conditioner: the outdoor unit (condenser) and indoor unit (Fan coil). The FCU is a cooling coil that cools the room, interconnection piping between the condenser and fan coil is required to run this system.

A multi-split unit consists of 1 condensing unit connected to more than 1 fan coil unit thus having the capability to cool multi rooms. The condenser can be a single compressor or multi compressors. Because of the design, single split and multi-split units are quieter than window units.

6. How long is the air conditioner installation?
The normal house installation will take 2 to 3 hour for one unit of air conditioners. If need 100% conceal on copper piping and PVC drain pipe, it will take approximately half day per 1 unit. And for other property air conditioner installation will have to depend on the piping length. Generally, 1 unit per 1/2day will be a safe estimation.
7. How long is the warranty period?
Most air conditioners come with ONE year warranty (parts & labor for repair excluding servicing) and FIVE years part warranty for compressor.

Note :
1hp to 2.5hp the compressor warranty is 5 years
Above 2.5hp the compressor warranty is 1 year

8. What is the average life span of a residential air conditioner?
The average life span of an air conditioner is about 6-7 years, but it can be prolonged through proper maintenance by qualified technicians on a regular basis.
9. What is the advantage of Fujitsu Plasma Air Cleaner and how offen do we need to replace it.
The Plasma air cleaner can quickly removes small dust particles , can absorb smoking odours, human smell, impurities and sterilization of harmful particles in the air. You did not need to replace the filter. If the filter gets dirty, it is easily cleaned by only washing it.

Service & Maintenance
1. What is the reason when the aircond is operating but there isn't any cold air?
The air conditioning system consists of two sectors with different functions. The indoor fancoil and the outdoor condenser. The indoor act as a blower to dissipate the cooling generated by the outdoor condenser. If there is no cool air blowing out from the indoor fancoil, it may cause by the following factors.
  1. Air filters dirty
  2. Object blocking the air inlet/outlet of the indoor/outdoor units.
  3. Aircond temperature is set too high.
  4. Windows and doors are opened.
  5. Airflow direction is not appropriately set.
  6. Remote control is not in the cooling mode.
  7. Parts may be faulty.
  8. Fan motor is clod with dust. Thus, cool air is being blocked, therefore cannot be blown out.
  9. The air conditioner installed is undersized
  10. Not enough refrigerant in the air conditioning system.

Please contact a qualified service technician to attend to your air conditioner.

2. Why is the air condition leaking water?
Water from the air condition is discharged out through a drainage pipe that is run from the fan coil unit to the nearest drain. Water will start to leak from the fan coil if :
  1. The drainage / pan or pipe could have been blocked due to some dirt being accumulated at these area.
  2. Aircond could be dirty
  3. Poor gradient of the drainage pipe.
  4. Installer use smaller pipe size for the drainage pipe
3. Why does water drip from the condenser (Outdoor unit)?
It is normal for water to drip from the condenser as condensation takes places when the warm air surrounds the piping condensate.
4. Why does ice-forms on the copper pipes of the condenser (outdoor) unit?
There are two possibilities. Ice-forming on the discharged pipe (the smaller sized one) is due to insufficient gas in the system. Ice-formation on the suction pipe (the bigger one) could be caused by a dirty fan coil unit or, a dirty filter or, the indoor unit blower is not rotating. A qualified technician should engaged to have the air condioner repair.
5. Why is the air conditioner is not working or when it operating, the MCB trips?
The most common reason is that the electrical power is not supply to the air conditioners. If the air conditioner operate for period of time then only it trips. Then , it could be possible that the MCB is under-sized. Please check the recommended MCB size with our service center for your specific model.
6. Why does the air conditioner produce a foul smell?
This is due to the smell of the room, furniture, or cigarettes being absorbed into the unit and is discharged together with the airflow. Please contact qualified technician to service your air conditioner in the event the air con produce a foul smell.
7. Why is my air conditioner so noisy?
The blower and coil may be dirty. OR, the noise may come from the vibration due to uneven wall surface or the indoor installation panel has'nt been install or attached properly to the wall surface OR, the blower wheel which is attached to the indoor fan motor is unbalance or broken . Sometime the noise is due to a glass partition or a thin plywood partition, or, which the compressor operating noise could have been easily transmitted into the room (Please refer to the installation menu).
8. Why is the fan coil unit still operating when the condenser is not?
When the room temperature has reached its set temperature by the remote controller, the condenser will stop operating. It will resume operation once the room temperature rises.
9. What happen if I do not service my aircon?
The life span of the air conditioner will be shortened, coolness decreases with usage and water leaking problem may occur as a result of a choke drainage system. The inefficient operation will then cause the electricity consumption to increase.
10. Do we need to service the Condensing (outdoors) unit? If, yes, how often?
You need to clean the condensing unit at least once a year to make sure the air circulation of the unit is not blocked. If you didn't service the outdoor condenser, then it can affect the cooling efficiency, shorter compressor life and even increase your electrical bill. Sometimes, it is subjected to environmental condition, which requires a qualified technician to give recommendations.
11. Can we do the general service by ourselves and how often?
Cleaning of fan coil and the cover of the air condition can be done easily but to take out the water tray will be tough for some people. To vacuum the drainage system and to check the refrigeration level cannot be done without proper equipment.

Basically, it is recommended that residential air conditioner is to be service and check every 3 months and every month for commercial air conditioner. The duration of how often to service the air conditioners is varies with the different usage pattern and environmental factors. Please seek the assessment from a qualified technician.

12. Can I do my own maintenance on to my air conditioner chemical flushing?
It is not advisable. Since there is a lot of dismantling to do, it is better to get a professional help. When chemical flushing is not done properly, several problems may occur. The chemical flushing should be carry out by a qualified technician.
13. When does the air conditioner needs Chemical overhaul and chemical cleaning ?
When your air conditioner starts blowing badly smell from the indoor fancoil, you should engaged a qualified technician to do chemical cleaning. The smell comes from the bacteria formed by microbes in the warm dark humid environment in the indoor fancoil unit. Chemical overhaul is need when your air conditioners is badly clogged / choked whereby the general servicing can not improve the condition. In an overhaul, the air conditioner is dismantle part by part and chemically wash.
14. Why must your company dismantle the fan coil unit for chemical service instead of inserting a water tray to wash away the chemical?
By dismantling the fan coil unit, we can clean the air conditioner's individual components thoroughly with the alkaline-based chemical, without leaving behind chemical residue which may lead to the corrosion of the fan coil.
15. What should be done, if there is a refrigerant leakage problem?
If you air conditioner system has a refrigerant leakage problem, simply adding of refrigerant (R22 / R410A) is not a solution. A qualified technician should be engaged to trace and repair the leakage. Upon completion of the repair , a correct amount of refrigerant should be top up.
